Jo is a specialist in geospatial solutions and databases. She has a background of 10 years work in archaeology, of which 7 have involved working on GIS projects for Oxford Archaeology's northern office in Lancaster. She became interested in web mapping in 2004, as a solution to a company problem of data access and deployment, and has deepened her involvement ever since. Currently Jo is a Senior IT Support and Development Officer at the Lancaster office, providing frontline support for IT, helping to carry through the company's open philosophy, and helping to manage large and small gis projects.

For OADigital, Jo provides advice on geospatial software, from set up, through specific problem-solving, to strategic decisions. She is also responsible for the portable GIS suite, which provides a full set of desktop and web-based GIS packages all designed to work portably on a USB stick with minimal setup and installation. For more information on this product see her blog: www.archaeogeek.com/blog/portable-gis.

Jo is the official representative of the  local UK chapter for the Open Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo). This aims to provide a focus for UK-based developers and users of open source geospatial software, speaking at conferences and seminars and establishing a portal for freely available geodata within the UK. Jo regularly gives presentations on open source GIS, and the role of OSGeo around the UK.
